On December 19, 2016, our activity hub, our clubhouse, and our cottage
and workshop burned down and were totally destroyed. We have experienced
a devastating loss. We have seen the burning of our clubhouse and our
auxiliary buildings, but we are not just our structures - - We are the
District Yacht Club.
For years, we have worked on our structures to make them more appealing
for the members, the community, our families and friends. We have had
many work parties to improve our surroundings and our yacht club and
marine environment. We survived the flooding of hurricane Isabel that
rose up into our clubhouse; we mopped up, cleaned up and built up
whatever was needed. And we will do it again.
We
may have seen our ‘home away from home’ burn down, but our spirit did
not suffer the same fate. DYC will
be likened to the six million dollar man; we will rebuild. We will be
stronger. With more of the hard work of our members and friends, we will
make our DYC clubhouse even better than it was. We will celebrate the
knowledge that no one and no boats were harmed. We will as a club, be
like the mythical bird Phoenix…we will rise up from the ashes. We are
the District Yacht Club. We will
continue to be a part of the historic boathouse row, a
Washington
tradition, a good community neighbor and a
Boating family. We are still a group of
recreational boating enthusiast that
enjoys boating, fellowship and family and we will not let a devastating
fire change that!
We are the District Yacht Club and we will be better than ever after
this.
